The glass group of Fraunhofer ISC has many years of experience in the development of glass ceramics, for example for dental applications. Special material properties can be realized in a glass ceramic material. Both the material development and the development of the manufacturing process take place in the certified area, taking into account the guidelines and QM measures required for medical products.

The demands placed on a dental prosthesis are high: it should look natural, endure accidental bites on a cherry stone - and if possible, the patient should be able to wait in the dentist's chair while the dental prosthesis is individually milled and inserted. Dr. Bernhard Durschang and Dr. Jörn Probst from Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC have developed such a dental prosthesis and are awarded the Fraunhofer "Technology for People" prize.
